Proof of identity (ID)

The Parliamentary Election

The Election Act requires that a voter who is unknown to the returning officer shall show proof of identity. Another person at the polling station may not vouch for or confirm the identity of the voter. So take proof of identity with you when you are going to vote; stating your name and date of birth is not sufficient. Good examples of proof of identity are passport, driving licence and bank card with photograph, but you can also use other proof of identity. The requirement is that they contain the voter’s name, date of birth and photograph.

If you are staying in an institution such as a nursing home, hospital or prison, you can get a member of the staff of the institution to confirm your identity.
