The play "Skoavdnji" addresses both the good and evil sides of human nature. The original source of the play was a ghost story from the eastern coast of Finnmark, dramatized and re-written by the Sami playwright Inger Margrethe Olsen (1956-2010). The setting of the play is in a coastal Sami environment in the 1920’s.
In the play the author focuses on domestic violence, how violence and
love can be present under the same roof, and how it´s possible that the
violence remains hidden to outsiders. The author also questions to which
extent we dare to settle with old misdeeds, and whether or not we dare
to confront our own ghosts. Beaivváš staged the play “Skoavdnji” for the
first time in 1994, but the 2015 version of the play is a completely
new staging. Famous Sami composer Frode Fjellheim has made new music,
and sets and costumes are designed by Bård Lie Torbjørnsen one of the
most renowned stage designers in Norway.
