Education benefit (utdanningsstønad) is a benefit for people who are taking necessary education or training. Education benefit is only granted in the period you are entitled to transitional benefit.
People who need education or training to be able to support themselves by working are entitled to education benefit. Education benefit may be granted for vocational training and general education, as necessary.
You can receive education benefit for maximum three years’ full-time education. If you study part-time, the benefit period can be extended. You may also be entitled to support to complete any necessary general education in addition to the three years’ vocational training. You are not entitled to education benefit once you have qualified in a vocation.
Education benefit covers the costs of school fees, materials, travel, etc. You can also receive support to cover extra living expenses and relocation costs connected to studying. Read more about the expenses that can be covered in the Regulations concerning education benefit under the heading Regulations in the menu to the right.
Education benefit is not subject to taxation.
