The Board of the Sámi Museum Foundation elected Sari Valkonen from Inari the Director of the Museum

In its meeting on 10 February 2015, the Board of the Sámi Museum Foundation elected Sari Valkonen, Bachelor of Forestry and Master of Education, from Inari the Director of the Museum.

Valkonen has been working as a cultural interpreter in the Sámi Museum Siida since 2008, substituting as the Museum Director in 2014.

The Director will take charge on 1 March 2015 when the long-time Museum Director Tarmo Jomppanen retires. Jomppanen has been in the employ of the Sámi Museum Foundation for 28 years.

The Sámi Museum Siida is a national special museum and the National Museum of the Finnish Sámi. The Museum runs its operations mainly in Siida, Inari. The offices, the collections administration, the exhibition production and the other principal operations of the Museum are based in Siida. The Sámi Museum operates an exhibition at Skierri, Enontekiö, together with the association Johtti Sápmelaččat. The Museum also runs the Skolt Sámi Heritage House in Sevettijärvi, Inari. The permanent staff of the Museum totals 11 persons.

The Sámi Museum and Northern Lapland Nature Centre Siida has every year almost 100 000 visitors, of which approximately 50 000 come to visit exhibitions and events.
