@tekst:It is great pleasure I to come everybody to International Indigenous Week in Karasjok.
ÊÊThe theme of International Indigenous Week is ÒThe Strategies of the Indigenous Peoples for the Millennium Development Goals of the UN.Ó It also celebrates the end of the UN Decade of Indigenous Peoples. We wish to involve young people, thus showing that Sapmi is also part of the indigenous world. We wish to partake actively in the international community of indigenous peoples and wish to create a dialogue across cultures.
ÊÊMany people have worked to make a full programme for these days. The programme includes both serious discussions and entertainment. International Indigenous Week is the result of collaboration between the Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs and the Un Association (North). On behalf of Karasjok municipality I would like to express appreciation for this collaboration. I am convinced that International Indigenous Week will provide inspiration and positive influences for our society. We also hope that International Indigenous Week will involve the entire Sami society. We invite people from our neighbouring municipalities to visit Karasjok during the week and take part in the various arrangements.
ÊÊWe welcome especially our indigenous guests from other parts of the world. We will learn from you and hope you will take home positive experiences from Karasjok.
