The Office of the Prime Minister

The Office of the Prime Minister assists the Prime Minister in leading and coordinating the work of the Norwegian Government.

Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs

The Ministry is responsible for labour market policy, the working environment, pensions and welfare policy.

Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion

The Ministry of Children, Equality and Social Inclusion has the overall responsibility for children welfare services, family affairs, childhood development, integration and diversity, anti-discrimination, equality and consumer affairs.

Ministry of Finance

The Ministry of Finance is responsible for planning and implementing the Norwegian economic policy and for coordinating the work with the Fiscal Budget.

Ministry of Justice and Public Security

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security is responsible for the preservation and development of basic guarantees of the rule of law.

Ministry of Climate and Environment

The Ministry of Climate and Environment has a particular responsibility for carrying out the environmental policies of the Government. In addition to initiating, developing and carrying out its own measures through its own instruments, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has an important role in influencing sectoral Ministries at the national level. The Ministry is responsible for coordinating the environmental policy objectives of the Government, and ensuring follow-up and monitoring results of environmental policies.

Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation

The Ministry is responsible for matters relating to housing and building policy, local government finances, ICT Policy and Public Sector Reform, rural and regional policy, local administration, the conduct of elections, government employer policy, central governments buildings, security and administrative services, government services and communication, Sami and minority affairs, management tasks under the Planning and Building Act relating to urban development, municipal land-use planning, environmental impact analyses and county planning, and national mapping and geodata policy.

Ministry of Culture

The Ministry of Culture is responsible for culture, church, the media (films, broadcasting, press and copyright), sport and the voluntary sector. The Ministry also has overarching responsibility for the state lotteries run by Norsk Tipping and for regulating gaming and lotteries run by private organisations.

Ministry of Education and Research

Ministry of Education and Research, also responsible for kindergarten.

Ministry of Agriculture and Food

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has chief responsibility for food policy and agricultural policy.

Ministry of Petroleum and Energy

The principal responsibility of the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy is to achieve a coordinated and integrated energy policy. A primary objective is to ensure high value creation through efficient and environment-friendly management of Norway’s energy resources.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The essential task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to work for Norway’s interests internationally: to safeguard the country’s freedom, security and prosperity.
