Aspaker about russian ban

I am informed that the measures carried out by Russia against the import of foodstuffs from the EU, Canada, USA and Australia also will have an impact on the Norwegian seafood industry. We are following the situation carefully, and we are in a close dialogue with the industry. Svalbard Global Seed Vault

20,000 new seed samples deposited in Svalbard

A new shipment of seeds from food plants has been deposited in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault for long-term storage. The shipment, that was transported to the seed vault in Longyearbyen this week, contains 20,000 seed samples from Japan, Brazil, Peru, Mexico and the USA.

The fisheries negotiation with the EU postponed again

- I regret that Norway and the EU was not able to conclude at this time either, says Minister of Fisheries Elisabeth Aspaker. We are already on overtime, and this could have been in place last year if the EU didn’t postpone and prolonge both this and other negotiating processes.

Norwegian contribution to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture's Benefit-Sharing Fund

Norway is paying close to NOK 700,000 to the International Plant Treaty's Benefit-Sharing Fund. This corresponds to 0.1 per cent of the value of the trade in seed products in agriculture in Norway in 2013, and is an annual contribution from Norwegian agriculture toward the efforts of farmers in developing countries to safeguard plant diversity.

Norway and the EU agree to continue talks in the mackerel negotiations

Today, Minister of Fisheries Elisabeth Aspaker met with EU Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to continue discussions on the negotiations between Norway, the EU, Iceland and the Faroe Islands on the management of mackerel in the North-East Atlantic.
