Norway participates in a range of international collaborative efforts concerning education and research. International collaboration is critical for strengthening knowledge and competence development.
Through collaboration, we can contribute to better international practice, and also benefit from increased access to knowledge and technology. Such activity creates better cross-cultural understanding, improved contact between countries, the building of personal relationships and professional networks. Norway cooperate within the EU/EEA, the Council of Europe, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the OECD and UNESCO, and also with individual countries.
One of the goals of the Nordic Council of Ministers is to create a sound education and research community in the Nordic region.
After the EEA Agreement entered into force in 1994, extending the single European market to include the EFTA states, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, Norway’s cooperation with the EU has been considerably reinforced and extended in several areas.
