Administrative areas for the Sami Language.

Administrative areas for the Sami language are municipalities where Sami and Norwegian are equal languages.

It is the municipal council that decides whether a municipality shall become part of an administrative area for the Sami language. If they decide for it, they must submit an application about incorporation to the Municipal and Modernization Ministry (Kommunal- og moderniseringsdepartementet). When a municipality is incorporated into the administrative area, the country administration is also automatically incorporated.

Municipalities and County administrations incorporated into the administrative areas for the Sami language are:

Kautokeino, Karasjok, Tana, Porsanger, Nesseby, Kåfjord, Lavangen, Tysfjord, Snåsa and Røyrvik

Finnmark fylkeskommune, Troms fylkeskommune, Nordland fylkeskommune and Nord-Trøndelag fylkeskommune.
